2012 Events

WHEAT MST organises a number of events. Guest speakers from various service providers including former refugees and migrants who became role models inspire new groups of mentors and mentees by sharing their experiences.

Christmas Party – 22nd December 2012

Mentors, mentees, children, parents, trustees, volunteers and staff of WHEAT MST colourfully celebrated Christmas on 22nd December at the Durning Hall Community Centre with music and dance (Senegalese Drummers); poem reading, songs, religious plays and a variety of games. Winners of each game were presented prizes.

Community Games – 31st October 2012

WHEAT MST organised Community Games inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games at the Durning Hall Gym. Children and young people ranging from 3 to 19 years were involved in a variety of activities including henna and face painting, arts, dance, music, snooker and basketball games. Black History Month – Harrow 2012 – 30th October 2012

WHEAT MST hosted Black History Month in association with Akoben Awards for a second time in two years looking back into the progression of BHM over the last 25 years. Key speakers were Ansel Wong, former head of LSPU’s Race Equality Policy Group (REPG), Addai Sebo, REPG policy team leader, and Marc Wadsworth, former chair of Black Sections. Two years ago, WHEAT MST hosted BHM 2010 with a theme: Education in Britain through Supplementary Schools and Mentoring. Dr Hailu Hagos of WHEAT MST co-presented with Eric Huntley QC from Bogle L’Ouverture. Both events were attended by a cross section of the community: councillors, community activists, residents, teachers and young people.

WHEAT MST’s Overseas Programmes – September 2012

As part of its overseas programmes, WHEAT MST had delivered a series of training and workshops in Ethiopia. The pictures below show the latest workshop run by Orthodox Muslim Catholic Association (OMCA) in partnership with WHEAT MST in the city of Adigrat, Northern Ethiopia in September 2012. Following the workshop a football tournament was organised by both agencies where orphans (in blue) played a fantastic game against their counterparts in red. OMCA comprises religious leaders united in tackling HIV and AIDS. Its motto is "Unity to Save Life".
